Abstract Introduction Tinnitus is a conscious perception of a sound resulting from abnormal activity within the nervous system. A relevant percentage of tinnitus patients report symptoms severe enough to significantly affect quality of life, including sleep disorders. Objectives To analyze the sleep quality, insomnia, daytime sleepiness, and risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in participants with tinnitus. Methods The sample comprised 18 adults and older adults aged between 18 and 85 years old (mean age = 58.7 ± 17.5 years old), females and males, with complaint of continuous tinnitus for > 1 month. The instruments used were the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) questionnaire, the Insomnia Severity Index, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and the STOP-Bang questionnaire. Results By means of the THI questionnaire, the tinnitus severity degree reported by most participants was mild (27.8%) and moderate (27.8%), having a positive (r = 0.582) and significant (0.011) correlation to sleep quality, measured by means of the Pittsburgh questionnaire. There was a positive correlation between the Insomnia Severity Index and tinnitus handicap (r = 0.499; p = 0.035). A total of 72.2% of the participants self-assessed their sleep quality as poor, in addition to moderate insomnia (27.8%), although there is low risk of OSA (66.7%), without complaints of excessive daytime sleepiness (72.2%). Conclusion Subjects with tinnitus complaint self-rated their sleep quality as poor. Moreover, the higher the reported tinnitus handicap, the greater the symptoms of insomnia. There was no influence of tinnitus in relation to daytime sleepiness and no relationship between the severity of tinnitus and the risk of OSA.

ABSTRACT Purpose The aim of the present study is to translate, adapt, and cross-culturally validate the Brazilian Portuguese version of the questionnaire Hearing Protection Assessment Questionnaire (HPA). Methods The original instrument, developed in English, seeks to assess barriers and supports related to the use of hearing protection devices (HPD), as well as workers' knowledge, habits and attitudes towards occupational noise. The translation, adaptation, and cross-cultural validation of the questionnaire consisted of five steps: Translation of the questionnaire from English to Portuguese; 2) Reverse translation from Portuguese to English; 3) Analysis of the instrument by three experts in the field; 4) Pre-test of the questionnaire with ten workers; 5) Application of the instrument to 509 workers in a meatpacking industry after the pre-employment medical exam. Results The results indicate the construction and content validity of the Brazilian Portuguese version for use with a working population and its internal consistency. Conclusion This study resulted in the translation, cultural adaptation, and validation of the Hearing Protection Assessment Questionnaire (HPA), in order to be used to assess the use of individual hearing protection in the occupational field, called Hearing Protection Assessment Questionnaire (HPA).

RESUMO Objetivo O objetivo do presente estudo foi traduzir, adaptar e validar transculturalmente a versão para língua portuguesa brasileira do questionário Hearing Protection Assessment Questionnaire (HPA). Método O instrumento original, desenvolvido na língua inglesa, buscou avaliar as barreiras e suportes relacionados ao uso dos dispositivos de proteção auditiva (DPA), assim como o conhecimento, hábitos e atitudes dos trabalhadores frente ao ruído ocupacional. A tradução, adaptação e validação transcultural do questionário foi composta de cinco etapas: Tradução do questionário do inglês para o português; 2) Processo inverso de tradução do português para o inglês; 3) Análise do instrumento por três especialistas na área; 4) Pré-teste do questionário com 10 trabalhadores; 5) Aplicação do instrumento em 509 trabalhadores de uma indústria frigorífica após o exame admissional. Resultados os resultados indicam a validade de construção e conteúdo da versão em Português Brasileiro para o seu uso com uma população trabalhadora e a consistência interna do mesmo. Conclusão Este estudo resultou na tradução, na adaptação cultural e validação do questionário Hearing Protection Assessment Questionnaire (HPA) com a finalidade de ser usado para avaliar o uso de proteção auditiva individual em âmbito ocupacional, denominado Questionário de Avaliação da Proteção Auditiva (APA).

RESUMO O objetivo desse relato de casos clínicos é apresentar quatro casos de fumicultores com perda auditiva devida à exposição laboral a agrotóxicos. Trata-se de um estudo de caso qualitativo, incluindo 3 casos de perda auditiva sensório-neural com nexo causal (Casos 1, 2 e 4) e um caso (Caso 3) de perda auditiva sensório-neural compatível com ototoxidade por agrotóxicos, com nexo baseado, sobretudo, nos transtornos neuropsiquiátricos menores. A casuística foi constituída por trabalhadores rurais com problemas de saúde, em idade produtiva, com início de atividade laboral precoce, expostos a múltiplos agrotóxicos, incluindo os organofosforados. Os sintomas auditivos e neurovegetativos relatados foram: desconforto a sons (n=2), dificuldade de compreender a fala (n=3), tontura (n=2) e desequilíbrio (n=2). A audiometria tonal revelou perda auditiva sensório-neural em uma ou mais frequências altas e um dos casos apresentou alteração no Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Tronco Encefálico. Foi evidenciada associação entre perda auditiva e o trabalho nos fumicultores expostos a agrotóxicos, com danos auditivos periféricos nos quatro casos e dano central em um dos casos, demonstrando a necessidade da avaliação audiológica completa para populações expostas a agrotóxicos.

ABSTRACT The Purpose of this case report is to present four cases of tobacco growers with hearing loss due to occupational exposure to pesticides. A qualitative case study comprising three cases of sensorineural hearing loss with causal nexus (Cases 1, 2 and 4), and one (Case 3) of sensorineural hearing loss compatible with ototoxicity by pesticides, with causal nexus mainly based on minor neuropsychiatric disorders. The sample was composed of rural workers with health problems, in working age, having started working early in life, exposed to various pesticides, including organophosphates. The auditory and neurovegetative symptoms reported were noise discomfort (n = 2), speech perception difficulty (n = 3), dizziness (n = 2), and imbalance (n = 2). The pure-tone audiometry revealed a sensorineural hearing loss in one or more high frequencies, and one of the cases presented alteration in the brainstem auditory evoked potentials. There is evidence, in this study, of an association between hearing loss and work in tobacco growers exposed to pesticides, with peripheral auditory damage in four cases, and central damage in one of them. Thus, the need for a complete audiological evaluation of pesticide-exposed populations is highlighted.

RESUMO Objetivo: caracterizar os fonoaudiólogos e as ações que desenvolvem na área da saúde do trabalhador com relação ao Programa de Preservação Auditiva (PPA). Métodos: estudo quantitativo, transversal, com 74 fonoaudiólogos de diversas regiões do Brasil que trabalham em Saúde do Trabalhador e Audiologia. Os participantes responderam a um questionário sobre seu perfil profissional, formação e atuação em relação aos componentes do PPA. Para a análise dos dados utilizou-se procedimentos estatísticos (teste Qui-Quadrado e o teste de diferença de proporções, ao nível de significância 0,05 - 5%) em relação às variáveis sexo, idade, função, tempo de formado e formação acadêmica em saúde e segurança do trabalho. Resultados: os fonoaudiólogos, a maioria mulheres, que relataram realizar o PPA, tinham idade superior a 30 anos; fizeram cursos de pós-graduação específica, mas ainda apresentavam dúvidas em relação à implantação do Programa; estavam em empresas com mais de 1000 funcionários, independentemente de seu regime de trabalho, realizando ações como: gerenciamento auditivo e orientação sobre utilização correta de protetores auriculares. Conclusão: há ainda um número elevado de fonoaudiólogos na área de Saúde do Trabalhador que não desenvolvem um programa de preservação auditiva na íntegra.

ABSTRACT Objective: to characterize speech-language pathologists/audiologists and their interventions in the occupational health area, regarding the Hearing Prevention Program (HPP). Methods: a cross-sectional, quantitative study with 74 speech-language pathologists/audiologists from several regions of Brazil, working in the areas of Occupational Health and Audiology. The participants answered a questionnaire on their professional and educational profile, as well as on their work related to the HCP components. For data analysis, statistical procedures were used (Chi-Square Test and the test of difference in proportions, at the significance level of 0.05 - 5%), in relation to the variables of gender, age, job position, time since their graduation and academic training in occupational safety and health. Results: the speech-language pathologists/audiologists, mostly women, who reported performing the HPP, were older than 30 years, had specific postgraduate courses, but still had doubts about the Program implementation, they worked for companies with over 1,000 employees, disregarding their employment status, performing interventions, such as: hearing management and guidance on the correct use of ear protectors. Conclusion: a high number of speech-language pathologists in the Occupational Health area have not developed a complete hearing conservation program to this date.

Abstract Introduction Hearing is the main sensory access in the first years of life. Therefore, early detection and intervention of hearing impairment must begin before the first year of age. Objective To analyze the results of the electrophysiological hearing assessment of children at risk for hearing loss as part of the newborn hearing screening (NHS). Methods This is a cross-sectional study held at a hearing health public service clinic located in Brazil, with 104 babies at risks factors for hearing loss referred by public hospitals. A questionnaire was applied to parents, and the auditory brainstem response (ABR) test was held, identifying those with alterations in the results. The outcome of the NHS was also analyzed regarding risk factor, gestational age and gender. Results Among the 104 subjects,most of them weremale (53.85%), and the main risk factor found was the admission to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for a period longer than 5 days (50.93%). Eighty-five (81.73%) subjects were screened by NHS at the maternity and 40% of them failed the test. Through the ABR test, 6 (5.77%) infants evidenced sensorineural hearing loss, 4 of them being diagnosed at 4months, and 2 at 6 months of age; all of them failed the NHS and had family history and admission atNICU for over 5 days as themost prevalent hearing risks; in addition, familymembers ofall children perceived their hearing impairment. Conclusion Advances could be observed regarding the age of the diagnosis after the implementation of the NHS held at the analyzed public service clinic.

Abstract Introduction Nowadays noise remains the third largest cause of environmental pollution on Earth. It appears that despite the existing noise control legislation the issue deserves further supervision by the public authorities so that the ceilings established for the various activities are observed. People exposed to noise are more likely to develop numerous auditory and non-auditory problems directly impacting persona family and working life. Objectives The objective of this study is to research and consequently understand how the population of students of a youth and adult school in Curitiba perceives noise pollution as well as look into the actions that the school adopts in order to guide the students on the topic. Method We applied a structured questionnaire to 120 individuals and assessed the following variables: characterization of the place of residence occupation leisure health and perception of soundscapes. We also applied a closed questionnaire about educational actions for noise pollution to the school’s geography teacher. Results Questionnaire responses show that people perceive noise in the most diverse environments they frequent and are able to identify the source of the noise but this perception proved fragile as themajority does not takemeasures to prevent ormitigate these noises. At school there are no actions aimed at environmental education on the subject studied. Conclusion The studied group does not perceive the noise as a harmful agent and does not prevent themselves from it and the school not work contents related to noise pollution leaving a significant gap in the awareness process of this population.

Introduction Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a serious problem for workers and therefore for businesses. The hearing conservation program (HCP) is a set of coordinated measures to prevent the development or evolution of occupational hearing loss, which involves a continuous and dynamic process of implementation of hearing conservation routines through anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and subsequent control of the occurrence of existing environmental risks or of those thatmay exist in the workplace and lead to workers hearing damage. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the HCP in preventing further hearing loss in workers with audiograms suggestive of NIHL. The audiometric tests and medical records of 28 furniture company workers exposed to noise were reviewed and monitored for 2 years. Methods This retrospective, cross-sectional study examined five audiometric tests in the medical records (on admission and every semester) of 28 workers in a furniture company (totaling 140 audiometric exams) following the introduction of the HCP. Results Data analysis showed no differences between the audiometric tests conducted on admission and those performed every semester. Conclusions The HCP implemented was effective in preventing the worsening of hearing loss in workers already with NIHL when exposed to occupational noise. Therefore, such a measure could be useful for the employment of workers with hearing loss in job sectors that have noise exposure.

<sec><title>Introduction</title><p> High-level noise exposure in dentists' workplaces may cause damages to the auditory systems. High-frequency audiometry is an important tool in the investigation in the early diagnosis of hearing loss.</p></sec><sec><title>Objectives</title><p> To analyze the auditory thresholds at frequencies from 500 to 16,000 Hz of dentists in the city of Curitiba.</p></sec><sec><title>Methods</title><p> This historic cohort study retrospectively tested hearing thresholds from 500 to 16,000 Hz with a group of dentists from Curitiba, in the state of Paraná, Brazil. Eighty subjects participated in the study, separated into a dentist group and a control group, with the same age range and gender across groups but with no history of occupational exposure to high levels of sound pressure in the control group. Subjects were tested with conventional audiometry and high-frequency audiometry and answered a questionnaire about exposure to noise.</p></sec><sec><title>Results</title><p> Results showed that 81% of dentists did not receive any information regarding noise at university; 6 (15% ) dentists had sensorineural hearing impairment; significant differences were observed between the groups only at frequencies of 500 Hz and 1,000, 6,000 and 8,000 Hz in the right ear. There was no significant difference between the groups after analysis of mean hearing thresholds of high frequencies with the average hearing thresholds in conventional frequencies; subjects who had been working as dentists for longer than 10 years had worse tonal hearing thresholds at high frequencies.</p></sec><sec><title>Conclusions</title><p> In this study, we observed that dentists are at risk for the development of sensorineural hearing loss especially after 10 years of service.</p></sec>

OBJETIVO: identificar as percepções da equipe de enfermagem acerca da importância da comunicação no cuidado ao paciente traqueostomizado, de modo a auxiliá-lo na sua recuperação. MÉTODOS: estudo de abordagem quantitativa e qualitativa. A amostra do estudo foi constituída por 51 integrantes da equipe de enfermagem (auxiliares de enfermagem, técnicos e enfermeiros), das Clínicas Médica Feminina e Masculina, Centro de Terapia Semi-Intensiva e Intensiva Adulto, e Neurocirurgia, de um hospital de ensino em Curitiba/PR. As informações foram coletadas por meio de questionário com questões fechadas e abertas. Na associação entre variáveis quantitativas foram considerados o teste Qui-Quadrado, valores de p < 0,05 indicaram significância estatística, os dados qualitativos foram submetidos à proposta de análise de conteúdo. RESULTADOS: os dados mostram que os participantes têm vivências variadas em sua área de atuação e constatam na sua prática cotidiana a necessidade e a importância da interação com o paciente traqueostomizado para sua recuperação. Os resultados apontam que os Auxiliares e Técnicos, desenvolvem mais orientações do que o enfermeiro (p=0,028). CONCLUSÃO: evidenciou-se no estudo que na impossibilidade de comunicação verbal pelo paciente, os participantes do estudo se utilizam de estratégias diferenciadas de comunicação, como gestos, sinalização e comunicação escrita.

PURPOSE: to identify nursing teams perceptions on the importance of communication in tracheostomized patients' care. METHODS: quantitative, qualitative study. Sample entailed 51 nursing team members (nursing assistants, nursing technicians and nurses), from Male and Female Wards, Adult, Neurosurgical ICU and SDU, at a teaching hospital in Curitiba, Paraná State/Brazil. Information was gathered by means of a questionnaire with open and closed questions. Statistically significant chi-square test (p<0.05) was considered in the association between quantitative variables, and qualitative data were submitted to content analysis. RESULTS: data evidenced that participants have varied experience in their professional practice, observing in their daily practice, the need and importance of interaction with tracheostomized patients for their recovery. Results pointed out that Nursing Assistants and Technicians have obtained more instructions than nurses themselves (p=0.028). CONCLUSION: it was evidenced that participants in the study use varied communicative strategies, such as gestures, signs and written communication when verbal communication to those patients is not possible.

Introduction The presence of noise in our society has attracted the attention of health professionals, including speech-language pathologists, who have been charged along with educators with developing hearing conservation programs in schools. Objective To describe the results of three strategies for awareness and hearing preservation in first to fourth grades in public elementary schools. Methods The level of environmental noise in classrooms was assessed, and 638 elementary school students from first to fourth grades, 5 to 10 years of age, were audiologically evaluated. After the evaluations, educational activities were presented to children and educators. Results The noise level in the classroom ranged from 71.8 to 94.8 A-weighted decibels. The environment of the classroom was found to promote sound reverberation, which hinders communication. Thirty-two students (5.1%) presented hearing alterations. Conclusion The application of strategies for a hearing conservation program at the school showed that noise is present in the room, and hearing loss, sometimes silent, affects schoolchildren. Students and teachers were aware that hearing problems can be prevented. Avoiding exposure to noise and improving the acoustics in classrooms are essential.

Introdução: O ruído de impacto é caracterizado por apresentar picos de energia acústica de duração inferior a um segundo, em intervalos superiores a um segundo. Objetivo: Quantificar os níveis de ruído de impacto a que o policial militar fica exposto durante atividades de tiro com armas de fogo e analisar a atenuação do protetor auricular utilizado. Método: As medições foram realizadas no estande de tiros de um Batalhão da Polícia Militar. Para a medição dos níveis de pressão sonora foi utilizado um audiodosímetro modelo SV 102 (Svantek). Foram utilizados dois microfones simultaneamente: um externo e outro tipo inserção, e a arma utilizada foi a pistola calibre 40, da marca Taurus®. Resultados: Os valores obtidos no microfone externo foram de 146 dBC (pico) e ruído máximo de 129,4 dBC (fast). Os resultados obtidos no microfone de inserção foram de 138,7 dBC (pico) e ruído máximo de 121,6 dBC (fast). Conclusão: Nossos achados evidenciaram elevados níveis de pressão sonora no estande de tiros, que ultrapassaram os limites máximos recomendados (120 dBC), mesmo em medição com microfone de inserção. Portanto, alternativas para melhorar o desempenho da proteção auditiva devem ser consideradas pela equipe de segurança da corporação.

Introduction: Impact noise is characterized by acoustic energy peaks that last less than a second, at intervals of more than 1 s. Objective: To quantify the levels of impact noise to which police officers are exposed during activities at the shooting range and to evaluate the attenuation of the hearing protector. Methods: Measurements were performed in the shooting range of a military police department. An SV 102 audiodosimeter (Svantek) was used to measure sound pressure levels. Two microphones were used simultaneously: one external and one insertion type; the firearm used was a 0.40 Taurus® rimless pistol. Results: The values obtained with the external microphone were 146 dBC (peak), and a maximum sound level of 129.4 dBC (fast). The results obtained with the insertion microphone were 138.7dBC (peak), and a maximum sound level of 121.6 dBC (fast). Conclusion: The findings showed high levels of sound pressure in the shooting range, which exceeded the maximum recommended noise (120 dBC), even when measured through the insertion microphone. Therefore, alternatives to improve the performance of hearing protection should be considered.

Objetivo analisar as falhas técnicas em próteses auditivas de um grupo de usuários do Programa de Saúde Auditiva de uma Universidade em Curitiba. Métodos analisou-se o relatório técnico de 104 próteses de usuários que compareceram ao serviço para a consulta de acompanhamento. Resultados o relatório apontou para defeitos em: 21% receptor; 15% caixa; 12% suspensão; 9% microfone; 2% amplificador. Com relação à causa provável do defeito: 58% desgaste em função do tempo de uso; 25% umidade; 23% mau uso. Quanto ao valor dos consertos: mínimo de R$44,00 para revisão e limpeza (36%) e máximo de R$900,00 para substituição de peças (9,6%); 21% da amostra teve o orçamento realizado entre R$100,00 e R$500,00; 37% dos aparelhos foram substituídos. Conclusão Os defeitos detectados deveram-se a problemas de manuseio entre os usuários recentes, e desgaste entre os usuários mais antigos.

Purpose to analyze the technical problems in hearing aids for a user group Program Hearing Health at a university in Curitiba. Methods we analyzed the technical report of 104 implants users who attended the service for follow-up visit. Results the report pointed to defects: 21% receiver, 15% cash, 12% suspension; microphone 9%, 2% amplifier. With regard to the probable cause of the defect: 58% wear a function of time of use, 25% humidity, 23% misuse. As the value of repairs: minimum of R$ 44.00 for review and cleaning (36%) and maximum of R$ 900.00 for replacement parts (9.6%), 21% of the sample was held between the budget R$ 100, 00 and R$ 500.00, 37% of the devices were replaced. Conclusion the defects were due to handling problems among recent users, and burnout among older users.

Objetivo analisar a eficiência de oficinas em saúde auditiva como proposta de ações educativas para trabalhadores expostos ao ruído. Métodos estudo de intervenção, em 15 trabalhadores do sexo masculino, expostos ao ruído em uma empresa alimentícia. Etapas (1) avaliação auditiva dos trabalhadores, (2) aplicação do questionário “Crenças e atitudes sobre proteção auditiva” (NIOSH,1996) versão A na amostra, (3) elaboração e realização de 3 oficinas, contemplando alguns aspectos da metodologia participativa, com os temas: anatomofisiologia da audição, efeitos do ruído, prevenção, diagnóstico e consequências da Perda Auditiva Induzida por Ruído (PAIR), ruído e seu controle, utilização de protetores auriculares, (4) aplicação do questionário versão B para avaliação das oficinas. Comparou-se a apreensão de conhecimentos pelos trabalhadores por meio das diferenças de pontuação encontradas no questionário versão A e B. Resultados entre os trabalhadores investigados, com tempo médio de trabalho de 31,5 anos, 40% apresentaram PAIR bilateralmente. Após a aplicação das oficinas houve uma melhora significante em três áreas temáticas avaliadas: Percepção da suscetibilidade de adquirir uma perda auditiva, Percepção dos benefícios de uma ação preventiva e Mudanças nas intenções de comportamento. Conclusão a concepção pedagógica do tipo Participativa adotada, contribuiu para a reflexão dos trabalhadores sobre a preservação de sua audição e saúde frente ao ruído. O questionário sobre crenças e atitudes permitiu a identificação de temas que necessitam ser abordados em outras Ações Educativas.

Purpose the effectiveness’ analysis of workshops on hearing health as proposed educational actions in health workers exposed to noise. Methods intervention study of 15 male worker exposed to noise in a food industry. Stages (1) assessment of hearing profile, (2) application of the questionnaire” Beliefs and attitudes about hearing protection” (NIOSH, 1996) – version A; (3) formulate and conduct three workshops covering some aspects of participatory methodology, with the following themes: anatomy-physiology of hearing, effects of noise, prevention, diagnosis of had noise induced hearing loss, consequences of PAIR, noise and its control, use of ear protections. (4) questionnaire application - version B for workshops evaluation. They were compared with seizure or retention of knowledge through the differences in scores found in questionnaires version A and version B. Results among investigated workers (15), the average working average working time was 31,5 years, all males showed that 40% had noise induced hearing loss bilaterally. After application of the workshops there was a statistically significant improvement in tree thematic areas, namely: a) Perception of susceptibility to developing a hearing loss, b) Perceived benefits of preventive action and c) Changes in behavioral intentions. Conclusion the pedagogical design of the Participatory type contributed to the reflection of the workers about preserving your hearing and health in the noise. Using the questionnaire of beliefs and attitudes led to the identification of issues that need to be addressed in other educational activities.

Introduction  Fishing, one of the oldest productive activities, is an important sector of the national and world economy. Aim  To evaluate the vestibular behavior in a population of fishermen. Methods  In a retrospective and cross-sectional study, 13 fishermen (mean 45.0), between 33 and 62 years of age, were submitted to anamnesis, otorhinolaryngological evaluation, and vestibular exam through the vector electronystagmography. Results  The most evident otoneurologic symptoms were hearing loss (76.9%), tinnitus (61.7%), dizziness (46.1%), and headache (46.1%). The most evident clinical symptoms were fatigue (46.1%), depression (23.0%), anxiety (15.3%), insomnia (7.7%), and agitation during sleep (7.7%). There were alterations in the vestibular exam in 5 fishermen (38.5%) discovered in the caloric test. There was a prevalence of alteration in the peripheral vestibular system. There was a major frequency of the peripheral vestibular irritative syndrome. Conclusion  The otoneurologic complaints were frequent in the population studied to verify the importance of allowing labyrinth exams and the need for adopting preventive measures relating to noise exposure as well as carbon monoxide exposure, because they can cause and/or enhance various manifestations of labyrinthine vestibular impairment that can affect the quality of life of these workers.

Introduction Exposure to music is the subject of many studies because it is related to an individual's professional and social activities. Objectives Evaluate the vestibular behavior in military band musicians. Methods A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed. Nineteen musicians with ages ranging from 21 to 46 years were evaluated (average = 33.7 years and standard deviation = 7.2 years). They underwent anamnesis and vestibular and otolaryngologic evaluation through vectoelectronystagmography. Results The most evident otoneurologic symptoms in the anamnesis were tinnitus (84.2%), hearing difficulties (47.3%), dizziness (36.8%), headache (26.3%), intolerance to intense sounds (21.0%), and earache (15.7%). Seven musicians (37.0%) showed vestibular abnormality, which occurred in the caloric test. The abnormality was more prevalent in the peripheral vestibular system, and there was a predominance of irritative peripheral vestibular disorders. Conclusion The alteration in vestibular exam occurred in the caloric test (37.0%). There were changes in the prevalence of peripheral vestibular system with a predominance of irritative vestibular dysfunction. Dizziness was the most significant symptom for the vestibular test in correlation with neurotologic symptoms. The present study made it possible to verify the importance of the labyrinthine test, which demonstrates that this population should be better studied because the systematic exposure to high sound pressure levels may cause major vestibular alterations.
